24-Aug-08Can’t get out, can’t sit still
09-Aug-08Walking through the rain forces one to focus on something else, rather than the water running down their face and onto their back, soaking their clothes and dripping into their eyes.
And what did I think about? Walking through the rain.
Not the rain I was walking through at the time, but the rain I had walked through years ago, as a teenager. I had left home, and at 2 in the morning, found myself walking in the rain, near my high school, nearly 15 miles away.
I remember the rain that night coming down in torrents, lightning striking randomly behind and above me. My clothing was soaked through and through, and everything in my pockets had turned to mush.
And what did I think about then?
The first time I ever saw a shooting star. Walking through the rain tonight, I found myself catching a glimpse of a shooting star, just out of the corner of my eye.
It wasn’t the same.
Suspected Mexican Superhero
04-Aug-08It sometimes amazes me as to what I will find myself reading in the paper. I know it shouldn’t at this point - due to the excessive amount of desensitization that our culture has gone through. But as soon as I read this story, one word crept through my mind: hero.
“…A driver crashed a borrowed car into a power pole and gas line early Saturday in Little Rock but fled the wreckage while the passenger died in the blaze…”
That was from the Arkansas Democrat Gazette, page 8B. The headline was appropriately named (Driver flees crash scene; passenger dies in blaze) and was of course just opposite of yet another heart warming story, this one involving a new and easier way of making Crystal Meth.
“Shake and bake” Meth - all of the ingredients come in a bottle, which you then shake up and a few hours later, you’ve got your product. Of course, like you’d expect it to do, this mixture can and sometimes will explode in your hand - which I’m just going to call “natural selection”.
I’m not for the use and manufacturing of Meth, but if these people are making this stuff out in the middle of nowhere, away from society, and it blows up in their hand or blows up their house or just pain blows them up - what’s the problem?
I know it can never be that simple - there always has to be a school involved, or some family neighborhood that is just completely shocked that “this could happen on my street!” or that they had “never expected him to be cooking!”
Those un-tapped stars the camera just happens to find, holding 5 kids, dressed in a sweaty stained white shirt and shorts that are 2-inches too small while puffing on a cigarette or downing some sort of unrecognizable liquid that you want to say is Kool-Aid but know you really think is something more volatile than Gasoline.
Or so it would seem.
Super High Me
23-Jul-08So we just got done watching “Super High Me”. For those of you who are completely in the dark as to just what this movie is, it’s basically an entire documentary based around Doug Benson and 60 days - 30 of which are spent sober, and 30 of which are spent high.
And it was all based on a joke he had made about a movie with a like-name, which you may have heard of, called “Supersize Me” in which some yuppy tries to prove that McDonald’s is bad for you by eating nothing but McDonald’s for 30 days. I haven’t seen the movie, but I hear he nearly died from complications related to health issues that arose after eating McDonald’s for 30 days.
On a personal note, I just want to say that whatever he was eating that gave him medical issues was not McDonald’s - I ate McDonald’s for 6 months straight and I wasn’t hospitalized once. But that’s beside the point.
Actually, most of that was a tangent - as my real intent of this post is to pose a basic question: what does it say about the people’s faith in their government if they believe so strongly in an issue that they have to create a law that counter balances another law that is already in place?
The legalization of Marijuana. Inevitable? I wouldn’t say “yes”. However, I believe that it didn’t become such a problem until it was criminalized.
I’ve smoked pot on a recreational level every now and then. I didn’t find it addictive - I didn’t find that it changed me in any substantial way, and I sure as didn’t find that it made me want to commit criminal acts (other than the smoking of the pot itself of course, which by the nature of the drug, is illegal…)
But apart from all of that, I found that it made things easier. I found that it made me enjoy things on a much better level than I could ever hope to achieve while not smoking pot. Maybe it was the depression, maybe it was the endorphins and chemicals being strewn throughout my brain and the affects of the pot itself that made things seem so much better, but that’s the point, isn’t it?
Things seeming so much better.
I find it somewhat hypocritical that we live in a country that tells us that we can do and be whoever and whatever we want, that we are supposed to go out into the world and find and make our own little piece of paradise - and live the dream. Our dream. But when there are people who do this and find ways of doing this that are non-destructive in the process, but simply deemed illegal because a majority way back when saw a plant as the root of all evil, we are suddenly criminals.
And I use the term “we” very loosely. I don’t consider myself a part of the counter-culture movement, or a pothead, or an advocate for Legalization, or any of that. I don’t smoke pot. Anymore. (OK, maybe once a year.) But that’s not my point either.
I guess the point I am going to make is that somewhere, on some level, we the people, who elect the people that are supposed to be in charge, that we are supposed to put our faith into to get things done that coincide with our personal beliefs as a whole, think that those very people have failed us.
That, and we can’t get over own vain attempts at morality and pack mentality to see through to what really matters.
In short - I would vote yes to a legalization of marijuana. Because there are so many worse things that we could be focusing our energy towards. There is so much hatred and pain in this world that deserves more attention than a little grass.
Marijuana never hurt anybody - kind of like guns never hurt anybody. It’s the personal choices that we as people make that is what defines good and evil. Not a substance that can’t think on its own.
Oh, and the movie was pretty good.
Slow Times at Scarform High
18-Jul-08Chalk it up to laziness. Chalk it up to just a lack of something better to say. Chalk it up to whatever you’d like to - the end result will be the same.
Writing is a passion - to be a good writer, one must have something to draw inspiration from. When that well runs dry, the writer often finds him or herself in a predicament: what shall I write about?
Sometimes the answers come and sometimes they don’t. To skip to the middle and spoil the ending, this isn’t one of the former.
But fear not - for the well is without end and as deep as the deepest cracks of the ocean floor.
Hey, it’s not all bad… right?
08-Jul-08Lost all meaning
01-Jul-08In an age of over-saturation and invasive advertising and pop culture references, we have come to the point where the phrases we use to express ourselves have become nothing more than pointless letters, seemingly randomly thrown together to appear like we are putting some real thought into just what it is, exactly, that we want to convey message-wise.
One phrase, in particular, comes to mind. “CMN”, or “Cry more, noob”. It’s been used so many times out of the originally intended context that I’m starting to think that the people using it don’t even know what they are talking about.
Proper usage: Person A uses an item that he got fairly, and that is available to everyone in the game. Person B says “Using that (item) isn’t fair!” Person A then says “CMN”.
It’s a proper usage because this item can be gotten by anyone, and it would seem that Person B is just too lazy to get it himself, therefore he thinks it is an unfair advantage, when in reality, it isn’t.
Improper usage: Person A uses an exploit to gain an unfair advantage over Person B. Person B says “Using that (exploit) isn’t really fair!” Person A then says “CMN”.
This is an improper usage because Person A is exploiting a vulnerability in the game to take up an unfair advantage over Person B.
It’s becoming more clear that the general usage of this term is nothing more than an inability to express oneself in a manner that is either understood or meaningful in any way. It has also become the trademark classic 14-year-old comeback that does nothing more than prove just how much attention they aren’t getting at home. In short, it’s just pathetic.
Where do all the people go?
01-Jul-08In another lifetime, I took a walk. I opened a door, stepped outside, and traveled on a road. This road took me to many places, and I saw many things. But once the walk was over, I returned to the door.
In another lifetime, I took many walks. Day and night, I walked the streets and pathways, and I saw many things. But once these walks were over, I would always return.
It seems so insignificant now, those walks. But something tells me that if I place a certain level of insignificance upon them, I will have missed the point entirely.
But then again, that was a lifetime ago.
Life and the ability to be VII

Congratulations! You’ve just won the Internet! You’ve figured out that slandering people anonymously is not only the preferred method of doing so, but that since you are anonymous, you will never reap the real life benefits of any real repercussions since, well, you’re anonymous!
You’ve figured out that what can not be said face to face with somebody is better left to the Internet, where not only can you slander whomever you want with no real consequence, other people (like yourself) can do the same thing all while taking said topic completely out of context and probably getting it wrong in the process.
But wait, there’s more! Not only have you figured this out, you’ve figured out how to use things like message boards and IRC to further your own agenda with other people like yourself to put down those who cannot (or will not) defend themselves because they will not sink to the current level that you find yourself at.
And you’ve done all of this while completely missing the fact that you’ve not only become nothing more than a sad pathetic parody of what used to be a good inside joke, you’ve become a parody of yourself. But really, if you think about it, I guess the latter and the former are one in the same.
So what will you do with this new found title? This new found reward? You will probably continue to lash out at those who are using what you yourself are using simply for the fact that they are using it and nothing more. You will continue to lash out at those who enjoy the same freedoms you enjoy, and then you will hide behind these freedoms and declare that it was because they deserved it and should DIAF.
All while remaining Anonymous, that is.
So congratulations and good luck - you’re going to need it when the veil of Anonymity comes off of you and you are exposed for the useless waste of flesh you truly are. (Oh, and may the rain of endless beating come down upon you like so many Internet Fappers placed into overdrive.)
Start Slide Show with PicLens LiteWhatever forces are at work in the deep dark underbelly of the Internets have somehow managed to churn up the drainage system once again and let loose a torrent of words and voices from the past that are still up-in arms over something that is as concrete as concrete can be.
Years after the fact, one of the developers of the NGE for Star Wars Galaxies came forward and said what has been said many times before - that the NGE itself was a huge “fuck-up”. “Epoch grade” he called it.
And of course, with the Internets being what it is, fanbois and bloggers alike lit up the wires like some sort of mass influx of madness with all sorts of thoughts and quips about this very topic.
Anybody who plays Star Wars Galaxies knows that it was a mistake to push the NGE on the subscribers so parallel to the release of the then new expansion ToOW, but to continue to beat a dead horse is simply just that: beating a dead horse.
I find it somewhat entertaining that the same people that are on the official forums constantly flaming the very game that they pay for are the same ones who are logged in every other day, playing a game that they constantly flame. The answer is simple: if you are unsatisfied with a product or service, you cancel said product or service. Because frankly put, those of us who still play and enjoy this game do not give a shit about your two-bit flames on a game that we can still find enjoyment in.
Was the NGE a mistake? Yes. But that is the object of change. Change can often be measured in two ways - small, almost seemingly insignificant alterations or one large giant Elephant in the room. The NGE just happened to be the latter. But no matter which way you slice it, the overall game was heading in that direction anyway. We were on a train that was heading in that direction - the only thing that the NGE accomplished was the skipping of a few stops here and there.
So my ultimate suggestion is not that of trying to make peace. It is not that of trying to reason with anybody, or trying to flame the game or its developers. It’s that of one simple truth: either play and stop poking at old wounds that have long since healed, or stfu and sit quietly in the corner away from those of us who still enjoy this game.
There is no debate. There is no changing it back to the way it was. Get over it.
Virus
21-Jun-08Recently, my computer was infected with a virus known as XPDX.sys. It is a backdoor trojan virus that installs hidden keys and files throughout Windows - and even when I was able to successfully track down every file and key, I was not able to delete them as this virus uses a rootkit technique that makes it virtually invisible to any means of detection, deletion, etc.
The answers that I found while Googling the virus and remedies to its existence did not work - and the fixes and hotpatches that were suggested did not either. Perhaps I did not catch it in time. Maybe I just happened to find out about it when it was too late - because it had effectively crippled my computer beyond any logical sense.
Logging into Safe Mode did nothing as it was still allowed to run as it had bound itself to the core of Windows - so it ran whenever Windows ran, Safe Mode or not.
System Restore was shot, and when I was able to use it, did not remedy the situation.
The only option left, after a countless number of attempts and hours of research and trying to fix the problem, was to reformat.
It’s currently at 96% completion, and I have taken the proper security measures and changed all online passwords as well.
Whoever wrote it deserves to be drawn and quartered. On live television. With refreshments being sold at half price.

Time Travel: Time Particle Theory
17-Jun-08
If you ever watch a movie where a person time travels in the movie, you’ll notice that as they do so, they don’t age. They don’t age, and everything on their person does not age.
The image above illustrates what I’m talking about. On Line-A, we see a normal timeline. Birth to middle age to old age. On Line-B, we have a timeline that starts when the person is middle-aged and we see how old he would look (and be) if he traveled back to the point he was a newborn and traveled forward to the point that he became old.
And C is an illustration of what would appear to be some sort of enclosure around him made up of Time Particles, which would keep all time relative to the point that he left and remain with him to the point that he arrived, with no apparent decay.
The same example could be used to say that I place an apple on a counter in front of me and place a second apple in my hand. Assuming that the I am in a controlled environment and that nothing will physically happen to the apple from any outside influences, I go forward in time 2 weeks.
Based on the Time Particle theory, the apple on the counter would have aged naturally and probably not be very appealing to the stomach. The apple in my hand, however, would still be the same as it was when I jumped forward, and would still be good to eat since it did not age naturally. In fact, it would have only aged however long it took us to make the jump in the first place (anywhere from 5 seconds to 5 minutes to whatever.)
“…time cannot be separated from the three dimensions of space because the rate at which time passes depends on an object’s velocity relative to the speed of light, and also the strength of intense gravitational fields which can slow the passage of time…” (Wikipedia “Spacetime”
Let’s take a slight detour…
In order for the Time Particle theory to actually work, we would first need to prove that time, is in fact, something that can be physically measured and viewed under a microscope. (Or at least seen by some means other than the natural effects of aging.) It would have to have physical properties of some kind, and it would have to manipulatable within the contexts that we need it to be.
According to Gravitational Time Dilation (Wiki) time travels at slower rates at lower gravitational fields. The difference is only in nanoseconds, almost insignificant in the bigger scheme of things, but the main thing is that it does pass slower.
However - Gravitational Time Dilation is copresent with an accelerated reference frame. Basically, any force within this reference frame would be manifested while from outside, the force would not.
Take two balls and bounce them simultaneously alongside each other (in and out of the Low Gravity Zone) and one will fall faster than the other. That’s basic physics, simply due to the fact that the environments in which both balls are balancing are not the same. Visually, time would appear to be moving slower.
If we were to take an environment with no gravity, and overlay it with our own natural environment (where gravity occurs naturally) we would see movement AND be able to feel the gravity that isn’t in our own current environment.
Since we are moving faster than the speed of light going forward, images would appear to slow down. This can be observed in traffic as you speed up to pass a car. When your the speeds of both cards equalize, the car that you are trying to pass appears to be going nowhere (relative to yourself). As you speed up, the car appears to go slower until, at the right speed, you are able to pass it. Going faster will only make it appear even slower as it starts to fade into the distance.
However, for both cars, the speed of light is still the same - it is only the velocity of your car in comparison with the other car, that is changing. However, if you were to go faster than the speed of light, the rate of change would diminish in comparison to your own.
Time, however, would still remain the same elsewhere as the light of speed in other locales would differ along with results from any nearby low or high gravitational fields.
But, if you were able to travel faster than the speed of light without moving at all, we would see the same effect, the only difference being that everything around you would continue to progress as it would normally, only slower. Since you are stationary, anybody outside of your view would be able to not only see you, but interact with you as well.
Coming out of this Faster than Light state, if you were to say, grab their arm, it would be instantaneous, as opposed to a motion that would normally be seen if you were to do the same thing outside of that state.
Since both of you were in the same locale, the speed of light would equalize and once again be the same for both of you as you slowed down.
It was the act of slowing down that equalized time between yourself and the other person. So in order for the Time Particle Theory to be conceivable, the person would have to remain in a constant state of moving faster than the speed of light, time itself would need to be manipulatable, otherwise they would equalize with relative time in their surroundings.

Social Spark
13-Jun-08A while back, I signed on with Payperpost as a means to help pay the hosting costs of this website. And for the most part, it did exactly that. Although a few rough patches presented themselves, I was able to take post opportunities and create content on my website that would generate a small, if not helpful, form of income.
A short time later, SocialSpark was launched. My first attempt to get {s} verified and ready for opportunities was met with a denial as the layout (at the time) did not feature content in advertiser friendly way. The overall theme has changed since then, content was once again restored to the front page without a need for click-thru and I redid the process of verification once again.
Needless to say, {s} was verified and my blog was found to be of an acceptably presentable nature.
Allot of people search the World Wide Web looking for ways to monetize their blogs. They look for ways they can create some flow of money from their thoughts and their ideas, essentially transitioning from novice blogger to a paid blogger. And it makes sense - we create content, we populate the Internet with the thoughts and ideas that drive discussion, promote and encourage the exchange of emotion and reaction in the community at large, and help reinforce ideals and belief systems that we hold value in.
We are the voices of a Generation, the sub-leaders of our peers, and molders of literary creation. Out of 108,810,358 distinct websites, 50,000,000 are blogs. Granted both of these numbers were tallied a year apart - blogs in 2006 by Technorati statistics and the website statistics by a Netcraft Web Server Survey in 2007 - but that still speaks volumes for our current state of affairs.
At any given moment, blogs make up nearly half of all websites. And according to Technorati, about 175k new blogs are created every day. As to how reliable that figure actually is would be anyone’s guess, but it still says one basic statement: bloggers are becoming the voice of the internet.
And there are people listening. Advertisers are listening.
SocialSpark follows a standard code of ethics when it comes to opportunities taken for cash. You must be clear that you are being paid for your opinion, and your opinion must be your own. They aren’t trying to change the way that you blog or the way that you think. They simply want to help you get paid to spread the word about whatever topic you choose to promote (or not promote.) Your blog must also be search engine friendly - which, if set-up properly, would be an inherit value of your blog already.
Continue to voice your opinion about the things you enjoy, the things that matter. Start getting paid for it.
